Originally, Gokū Black was unable to reach a level beyond the standard Super Saiyan transformation due to having not mastered Son Gokū's power. However, after battling against Vegeta, who was in his Super Saiyan Blue form, and being healed by his future counterpart, enough of Gokū's power had been awakened within Black's body to go beyond a Super Saiyan God and achieve Super Saiyan Blue. But when Black transformed, his hair did not turn blue and was instead pink—a sign of his divinity. In the anime only, Black awakened Super Saiyan Rosé in much the same fashion, only it was his battle against Son Gokū after traveling back to the past in pursuit of Trunks that allowed him to master Gokū's power and ascend beyond Super Saiyan God.
